INSTALLATION / CONNECTION
Basic Installation of an application with control cabinet, connection boxes & feeding cables is carried out by a competent electrician.
Installation of the plug connected heating cables can then be done by for example a sheet-metal workers who are used to perform operations on the high ceilings and are equipped right for these jobs. Adaptations of sheet metal parts are simplified and exchanges of any damaged or defective parts of the heating application can be done in connection with roof maintenance.
Control cabinets is built for 3 – 9 heating lenghts. The control with dual thermostats are relatively inexpensive. This allows a number of smaller control cabinets with separate controls mounted in the attic connected to the distribution board with energy meter. This construction also provides a good selectivity when the sensor location is directly adjacent to the part of the ceiling that the thermostat serve.
Systems with several small control cabinets facilitates installation when the length of the connection cables to terminal boxes may be limited.
The control equipment has an operational indicator which shows the real function by measuring the current in each heating length. The function of the lengths is indicated by lamps with reference mark to the connected heating lengths.
The placement of the heating lengths should be clearly marked on a readily available roof sketch to give a quick overview of possible errors in the review, prior to the cold season.
Replacement of defective material should be facilitated by making the connection point easily accessible.
Connection boxes/Connection devices:
Cable connections in the roof often gives rise to leakage, when sharp temperature changes, severe weather and moving ice perishable implementss sealing ability.
Our studies have done that we always recommend that all cable connections are made at the ceiling rises.
The slope of these are well protected and any leaks are detected quickly and easily remedied.
Installation of connection cables on the roof should follow seams for easy anchoring, lateral displacements can be usefully done in the walkways to be provided on all roofs. Fasten the cables with UV-resistant clips / strips, stainless steel or plastic material.
Installing the heating cable
The choice of heating cable should give sufficient power to ensure the transport of melt water, and made with respect to the outer jacket to be UV-stable. Self-limiting heating cables allow a power-saving effect which is important with regard to the high cost of electricity.
Of utmost importance of the heating cables function is, however, that they are installed correctly to make the maximum benefit.
What emerges is that the heating cables on roofs shall be anchored so that they maintain the intended position in the roof gutter, gutters etc. and that they have good connection against the base. Furthermore, anchoring at drainpipes shall be satisfactory and that the heating cable in the drainpipe shall reach down to the frost-free depth at the connection of drainpaipes to the surface water.
